Lean Learning Center recently participated in a collaboration with Oakland University and the Clintondale Community School District offering students in two elective classes at Clintondale High School a six-week (30 lessons) course on Lean methods that included an extensive project-based learning simulation.
This program set out to prove that lean can provide high school students with real-world applications of skills in mathematics, process engineering, problem-solving, observation, entrepreneurship, marketing, inventory control, and more. This pilot also incorporated a flipped pedagogy of online videos and animations, supported by in-class teacher-led sessions and student teamwork.
High School Education
A 21st century high school is expected to provide students with rigorous learning experiences in a comfortable, supportive, safe, yet challenging learning environment. It is required or legislated that opportunities are available for core academic achievement (English Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies) and electives (Health/Wellness/Physical Education, Art, Music, World Language, etc.), as well as for specialized programs (STEM, STEAM, etc.) or Career and Technical Education programs (Business & Technology, Agriculture, Hospitality, etc.). All course and program options should result in college and career readiness for all students.
In response to this context, high schools are finding many ways to meet these expectations. Examples of this include new instructional technologies, deeper learning pedagogy, competency-based student outcomes and flipped learning delivery. We proposed the use of Lean Fundamentals as an excellent choice for high school students in support of college and career readiness outcomes.

The Lean Learning Center was founded in 2001 to address the gaps and barriers that are holding back companies from successful and sustainable lean transformation.
