Skilled Trades Training Fund provides funds to companies for short term, in-demand training giving Michigan employers a competitive edge.

Troy, MI – October 10, 2016 – The State of Michigan is offering reimbursement for specified costs related to training new and current employees. The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) provides funds to companies for short term, in-demand training. Lean Training is available through this program with the Lean Learning Center of Troy, Michigan.

“The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) is used for short-term training (3 months or less, unless an apprenticeship)”, says Bill Artzberger, Managing Partner of Lean Learning Center. “This applies to all employers with a presence in Michigan. It is not industry specific”.

The employer must be in compliance with all federal and state tax obligations and willing to participate with the program’s guidelines. The maximum reimbursable cost of training is $1,500 per trainee (with the exception of apprentices), which is up to $3,000 per trainee.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. The application process is assisted by working with Michigan Works. The funding awards are based on factoring weighted criteria taken from the application. In 2016, $15M was awarded. The STTF Application period opened on September 12, 2016 and runs through October 14, 2016. Please contact Merri Bennett, mbennett@michworkswc.org, at Michigan Works, if you would like to receive an application and for more information.

Most businesses, both profit and nonprofit are eligible for the training costs. There are certain eligibility training requirements, training guidelines and items which do not qualify for the “eligible training”. Most training at the Lean Learning Center qualifies for this program.

To encourage participation in this program the Lean Learning Center is offering a reduced rate of $1495 per person for the three day Lean Experience ® program, and $1495 per person for the three day Leading Lean® program. Both programs are normally $1695 per person.

“These courses are available at our training center in Troy, MI or on-site at a company facility assuming they meet the minimum number of required class participants”, stated Mr. Artzberger. “We will also have a blended version of the Lean Experience® program available in January 2017 for the same price of $1495 per person. The blended program combines on-line training modules with our traditional classroom training (and simulations) to reduce the classroom time to two days.”

Companies will need to act fast with the deadline coming up for applications by Friday October 14, 2016.

The reduced rate training programs from the Lean Learning Center are available to everyone who commits by 12/31/16, even those companies outside of Michigan or those unable to participate in the program STTF program.
